Digital Resources For Those Out of Work
Websites, platforms and marketplaces to help those out of work due to COVID-19
As COVID-19 isolates us more from events, restaurants and bars, we all know someone in those industries who has been effected by this devastation and may need to think of creative ways to make money.
Below are some platforms and services that will not be able to recover all of the income you are losing during the shutdown, but can help you net nearly half or more of your losses back to you:
Amazon Mechanical Turk: A crowd-sourcing market place for technical and non-technical people to post a task, and once the task is completed, the verifier repays you for your service.
If you have specific skills, you can be invited by issuers to accomplish specific tasks right away. You can build machine learning algorithms, create websites/graphics or even build a physical items for someone.
For people not sure of exactly what to do, you can accomplish tasks in the Human Intelligence Tasks platform when you sign on to accomplish research, content or advertising viewing opportunities. If you do not have a bank account, or do not want your banking information associated here, you can even earn Amazon credit to purchase items online.
I just logged on and saw there was even an ask for “bathroom luxury advice”… topics can truly be anything you think of.
Taskrabbit: An application to connect people doing physical or administrative work. One of the more notable services they have is grocery store pickup which is key during this time when those for your loved ones who are larger at risk to the symptoms of COVID-19 may not be able to get resources or groceries themselves.
For any physical work that needs to be done, and if you are healthy, clean and are allowed to get these products… I believe it can be a very beneficial platform to connect you to extra work. Oddly enough they have a service to pay people to wait in line for them too:)
Gitcoin/Bounties Network: For those that have cryptocurrency accounts and wallets, these two sites offer reimbursement in crypto via technical and non-technical tasks.
Gitcoin is more privy to software developers and coders as you can be reimbursed for participating and creating opensource code. Helping teams to build a product/project, creating a grant for a cause of your choice, even being reimbursed for giving kudos to other groups. The founder Kevin Owocki is someone I respect in the space and has helped out this developer community for years with constant support.
Bounties Network is network for not as technical folks who want to build a community first, then foster tasks to be accomplished for a reward of the Ethereum (ETH) token. This platforms creates a community that can accomplish tasks and meaning to whatever you deem necessary.
Brave Browser (BAT Token): Brave Browser allows you to be reimbursed for searching the web, watching ads or taking surveys. While also protecting your browsing history from spam ads. If you are just using Brave and do not get targeted for an ad, I have received on average 0.30 USD/day, which averages to $109/ year for using your computer or mobile app.
Brave also adds a function where you can tip content producers on Twitter, Reddit, Youtube and others for their content if you appreciate it. Allowing you to be reimbursed for content over time too.
99Designs: All of my UI, Graphic and Video design fellows, this is a site for you… though I assume your digital services are in high demand at the moment. If you do not have a direct employer or you are more of an experimental graphic artist, this site can connect you with local people who need your help to create web graphics and design.
Those are some of the platforms and apps that I am most aware of. Please feel free to share or add more with me here!
